Golf Tied for 12th In Rain Delayed Western Intercollegiate

Santa Cruz, CA - The Saint Mary's men's golf team posted an opening round score of 299 (+19) and is tied for 12th place in the 60th Annual Western Intercollegiate from the par-70, 6,432-yard Pasatiempo Golf Course. The second round of the tournament was postponed due to rain. The tournament, which was originally scheduled for 54 holes, will be shortened to 36 holes.

Leading the Gaels on Monday was junior Chadd Cocco who posted an opening round score of 2-over par 72. Cocco shot a 37 on the opening nine before posting an even par back nine. Cocco is tied for 17th overall in the individual race.

Mike McRae posted a 73 (+3) to open the tournament. McRae shot 36 on the opening nine before shooting 37 on the inward nine. Dana Wade, who is playing in his first tournament of the spring, is tied for 37th place after shooting a 75 on Monday.

Robert Massi, who played his first competitive round for the Gaels since the 2003-04 school year, posted a 79 and is tied for 74th place. Joshua Kelley opened the Western Intercollegiate with a score of 80 to round out the Gaels day.

The Gaels will conclude the 60th Annual Western Intercollegiate on Tuesday with play beginning at 8 a.m.
