The 20th-ranked Pepperdine men's golf team is currently in 15th place after two rounds of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate that opened on Monday at the par-72, 6,906-yard Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. The Waves shot rounds of 306 and 295 for a 25-over par 601.
The 18-team tournament that includes 10 teams ranked in Golfweek's Top 25, is led by No. 2 Oklahoma State, which carded a 10-under par 566 and holds a six-shot lead over No. 19 Texas Tech (572). Oklahoma (573) is in third place and followed by host and No. 29 Texas (574) while and No. 7 Brigham Young (575) rounds out the Top 5.
BYU's Oscar Alvarez leads the individual standings with a 7-under par 137 and holds a one-shot lead over Southern Methodist's Brandon DeStafano, who is at 6-under 138. Oklahoma's Justin Fraley and Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech are tied for third with 4-under par 140s.
Oklahoma State teammates Tyler Leon and Jonathan Moore are tied for fifth at 3-under par 141.
Junior J.J. Wood is Pepperdine's top individual player with a 2-over par 146 and is tied for 30th.
