Solvang, CA - The Saint Mary's men's golf team finished the Ogio-Pacific Coast Intercollegiate with a final round score of 285 to finish in a tie for eighth place in the 18 team event. The Gaels posted rounds of 283-285-285-853 (-11) at the par-72, 6,830-yard River Course at Alisal. SMC finished tied with Pacific and 26 shots off the pace of Cal Poly, which posted a two-shot win over Denver.
SMC's Mike McRae posted a 5-under par score of 67 on Tuesday to post his fifth top-10 finish of the year. McRae shot under par in all three rounds of the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate with rounds of 70-69-67 for a career-low 54-hole score of 206 (-10). McRae finished seven shots off the pace of the individual medalist Chris Kirk of Cal Poly who shot rounds of 64-67-69.
Josh Kelley entered Tuesday's final round tied with McRae for 17th place overall and posted a third round score of 1-over par 73 to drop to a tie for 26th place overall in the individual tournament. Combined with his rounds of 69 and 70 on Monday, Kelley posted a final total of 212 (-4).
Robert McRae and Brett Mormann finished tied for 67th overall with final scores of 221 (+5). McRae entered the final round at 1-under par, but closed the tournament with a final round score of 78 to finish the event at 5-over par. Following back-to-back rounds of 74 on Monday, Mormann shot one better on Tuesday, closing the tournament with a 1-over par score of 73.
Rounding out the Gaels' scoring for the event was freshman Daniel Cone who fired a final round score of even par 72. Cone's even par round followed rounds of 79 and 73 on Monday for a total score of 224 (+8) placed him in a tie for 82nd place overall.
Saint Mary's will return to action in the West Coast Conference Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 16-17. The WCC Championships will be played at the La Purisima Golf Club in Lompoc, CA.
