Pebble Beach, CA (April 10) -- The tough Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach produced only eight individual rounds of par or better out of 200 total individual rounds in the the Saint Mary's College/Marrill Lynch Invitational. The Loyola Marymount men's golf team remains in the hunt as they sit in eighth place of 19 teams after the first 36 holes on Monday.

Shooting one of those rounds under par was LMU freshman Brian Locke with a first round 70. The course came back to get him too in the second round as he posted a 79 to finish the first day with a 149, good for a tie for 12th.

Locke and the Lions posted a team score of 610, just one stroke behind Santa Clara's 609 for top score among the six West Coast Conference schools in the tournament. The Lions are one stroke better than Saint Mary's, who is ninth. The Saint Mary's Invite is the final tune-up before the WCC Championships in one week.

Sophomore Jason D'Amore, the WCC Golfer of the Month for March, posted a 78 in the opening round but recovered with a 73 in the second round to move into a tie for 23rd with an overall score of 151. Senior Chaz Inouye is in a tie for 46th with a 155.

Rounding out the Lions's scores is sophomore Josh Escobedo in a tie for 54 with a 156 and freshman Louie Bergna at a tie for 68th with a 159.

The final round will play Tuesday.
