Pepperdine Tied for 23rd at NCAA Men's Golf Championships

Pepperdine carded an opening round 8-over par 296 on Wednesday and is tied for the 23rd place following the first day of the 2006 Division I Men's Golf Championships that opened at the Sunriver Resort's par-72, 7,630-yard Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Oregon.

Wake Forest shot an 11-under par 277 to lead the 30-team field. UCLA is three shots back after shooting an 8-under par score of 280. Washington and Oklahoma State are tied for third at 7-under par 281 while Clemson is fifth at 6-under 282.

Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers turned in a 7-under par score of 65 and holds a one-shot lead over Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin and USC's Taylor Wood, who totaled 6-under par scores of 66. Wood is playing as an individual in the tournament.

Washington's Alex Prugh (67) is in fourth place while four players are tied for fifth with 4-under par scores of 68.

Junior J.J. Wood turned in the best performance of the day for Pepperdine following an even-par score of 72 and is tied for 51st.

Senior Alex Coe, who was named to the All-Pacific Region Team on Wednesday carded a 2-over total of 74 and is tied for 83rd.

Pepperdine opens second-round action on Thursday beginning at 2:17 p.m. from hole No. 10 and is grouped with Kentucky and Nevada.
