Pebble Beach, CA - After 36 holes of play at the Saint Mary's Invitational from the Poppy Hills Golf Course, Saint Mary's is in ninth place out of 18 teams in the season opening tournament for the Gaels. SMC posted rounds of 302 and 291 to finish the first day with a total score of 593. Saint Mary's is 12 shots of the pace of first place Baylor, which enters Tuesday's final round with a four-shot lead over UAB and a five stroke lead over Wisconsin.
Through 36 holes, the Gaels had three players post scores of 147 (+3). The trio of seniors, Mike McRae, Chadd Cocco and Josh Kelley completed the day at the par 72, 6,833-yard Poppy Hills Golf Course tied for 17th place overall.
McRae posted the lowest round of the day by any Saint Mary's golfer, with a second round score of even-par 72.. Cocco and Kelley shot rounds of 74 and 73. Rounding out the Gaels team scoring were Robert McRae and Daniel Cone. Both McRae and Cone shot a two-round total of 153 (+9).
Saint Mary's also had four individuals playing in the field in Giuliano DeLecce, Richar Conlin, Kevin Smith and Hans Olson. DeLecce shot back-to-back rounds of 76, Conlin posted rounds of 80 and 76, freshman Smith had rounds of 82 and 80, and Hans Olson carded 86 and 77.
Saint Mary's will conclude action in the Saint Mary's Invitational on Tuesday with 18 holes of golf. Tee times begin at 7:30 am at Poppy Hills GC.
