Entering its season-opening tournament with three new players in its line-up, the Pepperdine men's golf team received solid performances from all five players en route to posting a third-place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate that concluded Saturday at The Championships Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Behind junior Jesse Barnsley's final-round 4-under par 68, the Waves carded a 1-over par 289 to finish at 877 and three shots behind winner and host New Mexico. The Lobos recorded a 54-hole score of 10-over 874 to register a one-shot victory over Brigham Young (875).
Pepperdine finished third and was followed by Texas A&M (878) and New Mexico Silver (880), which rounded out the top five.
New Mexico's Charlie Beljan claimed individual medalist honors with a 6-under par score of 210 to edge UNLV's Jarred Texter (211) by one shot. Tulsa's Brett Myers (212) was third and was followed by Texas A&M's Martin Piler (213) and Brigham Young's Daniel Summerhays (214).
After beginning the final round tied for 32nd, Barnsley's third-round 68 catapulted him to an eighth-place finish with a three-round total of 1-over par 217.
Head coach John Geiberger received solid performances freshmen Carl Smith and Shane Mason and junior Eric Shriver, who was playing in his first tournament for the Waves after transferring from Arkansas.
Mason, a true freshman, posted scores of 73-74-72 for 3-over par total of 219 to tie for 11th while Smith, who redshirted last season, tied for 20th with a 5-over par score of 221.
Shriver tied for 29th with a 7-over par total of 223 while junior Colin Wilcox tied for 84th.
Pepperdine is next in action on October 14 when it begins play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
