LAYTON, Utah - Gonzaga University's men's golf team shot a second straight 303 to finish at 606 and 15th at the Purple and Red Invitational men's golf tournament co-hosted by Weber State University and the University of Utah.
Boise State University captured the team title with a 567, good for a 1-stroke victory over Utah. Trey Merritt of the Broncos captured medalist honors with a 69-65 for a 36-hole total of 134 over the 7,147-yard, par 72 Valley View Golf Course.
Weather conditions were improved Tuesday over Monday's heavy storm that cancelled the first round and postponed play until late morning, cutting the tournament to 36 holes. The temperature was still chilly on Tuesday with the high about 58 degrees under fair skies.
Brandon Crick finished tied for 44th at 148 to pace the Bulldogs. He shot an opening-round 76. Bowdy Ehler, who opened with a 70 on Monday and was tied for seventh, skied to an 81 Tuesday to give him a 151 and a tie for 58th.
The Bulldogs, playing in their tournament opener, will next head to Macon, Ga., for the 54-hole, three-day Brickyard Invitational Oct. 7-9.
