(Corvallis, OR) - The USD Toreros' men's golf team placed 7th overall at the 2006 Northwest Collegiate Classic held at the Trysting Tree Golf Club (par 72; 7,070 yards). USD shot a final team score of 297 to finish with a three-round total of 895. Oregon won the team title with a score of 867, and was followed by San Francisco (876), Saint Mary's (881), Oregon State (884), and UC Irvine (888). Long Beach State (894) edged out USD for 6th place while the Toreros finished ahead of Washington State (896), Portland (900) and College of Charleston (909).
The third and final round was contested under another good day of weather at the par-72 course, with cloudy skies, light winds and temperatures in the mid-60s. The Oregon Ducks' Matt Ma won the individual title by two strokes with a final total of 210 (67-74-69). Rounding out the top five was Zach Bixler of Washington (212; played as an individual), Andrew Leneve of Oregon (213), Chris Collins of Washington State (215) and Jonathan Green of Oregon State (215).
San Diego's top finisher was Bucky Coe who finished in a tie for 13th at 220 (69-74-77). He was followed by Dale Smith (T29 at 225; 73-79-73), Darrin Hall (T34 at 226; 79-75-72), Joe Panzeri (T43 at 228; 74-79-75), and Mike Barry (T59 at 232; 79-75-78).
