Fairfax, Calif. - In the second round of the Alister Mackenzie Invitational, the Santa Clara men's golf team sits at 11th place out of 16 teams. The Broncos were in 6th after the first round, but saw their scores drop in the second. Jimmy Cacho continued his stellar play, shooting a three under 68 in the second round to be -9 for the tournament and currently tied for third place.
Cacho had just two bogeys the entire day, one in each round, and has been climbing his way up the leaderboard to sit just five strokes behind the leader.
Scott Travers also had a solid afternoon, shooting a 68 as well after his first round of 71 to go into the final round at -3 and tied for 22nd.
Freshman Tyler Ichikawa was consistent in his second collegiate tournament. After a double bogey and a bogey back to back in the middle of his back nine, Ichikawa collected himself and birdied the next two holes to finish at even part. His dual 71's have him at even par for the tournament.
Jonathan Keane had a rougher second round after playing well in the first. He birdied the first hole of the day and looked to put up another low number before a cluster of bogeys derailed him, including a triple on #7. Keane came through with an eagle on 15, but finished the day at +4 and +1 for the tournament.
Tim Lynch struggled on the front nine in the second round, going eight over, before collecting himself to shoot even par for the back nine. He is currently at +11.
The Broncos have just 18 more holes to rally and put up some low scores to bring themselves back into contention. The first Santa Clara player goes off at 8:14 tomorrow.
