Fairfax, CA - The Saint Mary's men's golf team posted a 12th place finish in the 15-team Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal. The Gaels posted rounds of 289-283-296 for a 54-hole score of 868 (+16) from the par-71, 6,606-yards Meadow Club.
The Gaels finished 42 shots off the pace set by the host Bears, who shot rounds of 268-275-283 for a three rounds score of 826 to finish 16 shots ahead of San Jose State. The Gaels were one of three teams from the West Coast Conference in the tournament and finished five shots behind Santa Clara and one shot behind San Francisco.
Individually for Saint Mary's, Josh Kelley was the low man with a score of 214 to finish the tournament at 1-over par. Kelley shot and opening round score of 69, which was the lowest of the tournament for SMC. Kelley finished with rounds of 73 and 72 and finished in a tie for 19th place overall.
Finishing in 25th and 35th places respectively were Mike and Robert McRae. Mike McRae posted rounds of 71-73-72 to post a 54-hole total of 216 (+3). Robert McRae finished two shots behind his brother at 218 with rounds of 74-70-74.
Brett Mormann posted a 59th place finish with a score of 222. Mormann opened the invitational with a 75 and then matched Kelley's opening round score of 69 in the second round. Mormann finished the tournament with a third-round score of 78.
Giuliano DeLecce, who was playing in his first collegiate tournament finished 75th overall in the 78-player field. DeLecce's best round was the second when she shot an even-par 71. He opened the tournament with a 77 and then rounded out his first event with a 79 on Tuesday.
Saint Mary's will return to the links on October 23-24 when they participate in the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State. The Barona Collegiate Cup will be played at the Barona Creek Golf Course in Lakeside, CA.
