Simi Valley, CA (Oct. 30) - The Loyola Marymount University men's golf team posted a two-round score of 582 on the opening day of the Bill Cullum Intercollegiate on Monday to position themselves in first place heading into final round action on Tuesday at Wood Ranch in Simi Valley.
The Lions opened the day with a 292 in the first round and then added a 290 in the second round to hold a one stroke lead over Cal Poly, who posted a two-round 583. UC Santa Barbara (589), Idaho State (590) and Southern Utah (591) round out the top five.
Sophomore Brian Locke leads the entire 87-man, 14-team field after two rounds with a 139. He posted a two-under 70 in the first round and then carded a three-under 69 for a one stroke lead.
Junior Jason D'Amore also sits in the top-10 with rounds of 71 and 73 to card an even-par 144. He is a tie for ninth place.
Rounding out the Lions team is sophomore Joe Stassi, playing in his third team event of his career, with a 149. He is in a tie for 26th. Junior Josh Escobedo is ina tie for 31st with a 150 and sophomore Louie Bergna is in a tie for 74th with a 162.
Final round action begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
