Lions Dominate Round One

Kaneohe, HI (Nov. 6) - The Loyola Marymount University men's golf team set a program record with a first round score of 280 at the Hawaii Fall Intercollegiate at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Club in Kaneohe, Hawaii on Monday. The Lions snapped the single round record they set last year in the NCAA West Regional with a 281.

The top three individuals in the tournament belong to the Lions as sophomore Brian Locke leads the field with a 68, followed by juniors Jason D'Amore and Josh Escobedo with 69 each. All three posted scores of 34 on the back nine to help the Lions to a seven stroke lead over New Mexico State in the 15-team field.

Rounding out the top-five was Hawaii in third with a 288, San Diego in fourth at 290 and Weber State in fifth at 291. The second round continues on Tuesday with another 18 holes.

Sophomore Joe Stassi continued his improved play for the Lions, hitting a 74 for a tie at 36th. Louie Bergna is in a tie for 58th with a 77.
