Saint Mary's, San Francisco both picked to win WCC Golf Championship

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Saint Mary's and the University of San Francisco were selected to win the 2013 West Coast Conference men's golf championship in a preseason poll of the WCC's eight head coaches. The Gaels received five out of a possible eight first-place votes, while the Dons received the other three first-place votes.

Saint Mary's led the way with three preseason all-WCC selections: senior Ben Geyer and Mac McClung along with sophomore Jonathan De Los Reyes. USF had two players voted to the preseason all-WCC team: senior Taylor Travis and sophomore Jobim Carlos.

BYU totaled 39 points in the coaches poll and were picked to finish third in the conference. BYU returns all-conference selections senior Zac Blair and junior Justin Keiley. The Cougars are one of three WCC teams with multiple all-conference picks.

San Diego was picked to finish fourth with 34 points. Sophomore Grant Forrest is a member of the 2013 preseason all-conference team. Santa Clara totaled 23 points in the coaches poll and were picked to finish fifth.

Rounding out the preseason coaches poll are Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and Gonzaga. LMU junior Tyler Torano was selected to the preseason all-WCC team.

The 2013 WCC Golf Championships will take place from April 15th to the 17th at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
