Toreros 7th After First Round Play Of Western Intercollegiate

(Santa Cruz, Calif.) - The USD Toreros find themselves in 7th place out of sixteen teams after the first round of the 60th Annual Western Intercollegiates being played at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, California. USD shot a team score of 296 and was tied with Cal. Duke turned in the best first round team score of 284 and was five strokes better than UC Santa Barbara and Stanford. The Toreros were paced in the first round by Bucky Coe's 71 (35-36), good for a tie for 9th. Duke's Ryan Blaum and Stanford's Rob Grube each carded the low round of 68.

Coe was followed by Mike Barry (t-20th with 73; 35-38), Jimmy Harris (t-45th with 76; 37-39), Luke Antonelli (t-45th with 76; 39-37), and Jake Yount (t-74th with 79; 37-42). Second round play is schedule to be completed this afternoon, however, the tourney was being hit by rain and some hail.
