Bulldogs Struggle Over Wet 36 Holes

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Gonzaga University had just three sub-80 rounds Monday during the opening 36 holes of the Saint Mary's College/Merrill Lynch Invitational men's golf tournament being played at Poppy Hills Golf Course.

Reyn Tanaka is tied for 64th at 158 after shooting 77-81, Trevor Loe is tied for 68th at 159 with rounds of 81-78 and Colin Floyd is knotted for 77th with a 160 after rounds of 77-83.

That left the Bulldogs in 19th place with a 642, three strokes behind Sacramento State University and well behind Xavier University at 593 which was good for a 1-stroke lead over Lamar University.

Jason Anthony of Fresno State University is the individual leader at 143 after 36 holes over the 6,833-yard, par 72 layout. That gave him a 2-shot lead over Barry Schenk of Weber State University heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Monday's play was held under cloudy, rainy conditions.
