2015 WCC Golf Championship Opens Monday at Saticoy CC

The 2015 West Coast Conference Golf Championships will be held at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, California. The event runs from Monday, April 13 through Wednesday, April 15. Golfers will play 18 holes per day on the par-72 course playing at 6,985 yards.

At the 2014 WCC Championship, BYU's men (874, +10) won their first conference title with a four-stroke victory over runner-up Santa Clara. The Cougars were led by All-Conference student-athletes Justin Keiley, Joe Parkinson, and Jordan Robinson, and the WCC Coach of the Year Bruce Brockbank. San Francisco also had an impressive outing with a three-day total of 879, just one stroke behind runner-up Santa Clara.

Pacific's Byron Meth captured 2014 medalist honors. He shot 66-71-71-208 (-8) to finish seven strokes ahead of Saint Mary's Alex Bungert and San Francisco's Jobim Carlos (-1).

WCC GOLF QUICK HITS

  • Four WCC programs won tournament titles this year. Those programs include San Diego at the Saint Mary's Invitational, Pacific at the Nick Watney Invitational, Santa Clara at the Utah Ogio Invitational, and Saint Mary's at the Jim West Intercollegiate.
  • BYU returns to the WCC Golf Championship as the preseason favorite and will attempt to win a second consecutive WCC tournament title after winning its first last year.
  • Four WCC student-athletes recorded medalist honors in 2014-15. San Diego's Mathias Dal, Pacific's Byron Meth, Santa Clara's Hayden Shieh, and Pepperdine's Frederick Wedel.
  • Three WCC student-athletes rank in the top-100 nationally according to GolfStat: Pacific's Byron Meth (59), San Diego's Grant Forrest (64), and Saint Mary's Jonathan De Los Reyes (78).
  • Pepperdine's Frederick Wedel carded a 20-under 196 (64-63-69) to win the Makai Invitational and set a 54-hole program record.
