Loe, Crick Tied For 15th In WCC Chase

LOMPOC, Calif. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team suffered from inconsistency during Monday's opening two rounds of the 40th annual West Coast Conference Championship being played at La Purisima Golf Course.

Junior Trevor Loe and freshman Brandon Crick are part of a four-way tie for 15th to pace the Bulldogs through 36 holes. But they got there via different routes.

Crick opened with an even-par 72 over the 7,105-yard layout, but shot a second-round 79. Loe opened with a 78 and came back with a 73 as the duo stand at 151 heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.Reyn Tanaka, another junior, was one stroke behind his teammates and tied for 19th after rounds of 75-77.

Senior Jimmy Hayes opened with an 84 but rallied for a second-round 73 for a 36-hole total of 157 and a tie for 33rd, while sophomore Bowdy Ehler shot 82-81 for a 163 and 39th place.

The Bulldogs shot 307-302 for a two-round total of 609 for seventh place, eight strokes ahead of the University of Portland and six shots behind Santa Clara University. Pepperdine University had rounds of 289-293 for a 589 and a 3-shot lead over St. Mary's College. Defending champion Loyola Marymount University is fourth with an even 600.

Pepperdine teammates Colin Wilcox and Eric Shriver, and LMU's Jason D'Amore shot identical rounds of 73-71 for a 144 for a 2-stroke lead over four others that included defending medalist Brian Locke of LMU.
