Second round complete at 2012 WCC Golf Championships

HOLLISTER, Calif. -- With two days in the books, the Saint Mary's men's golf team holds a six-stroke lead over second place San Francisco at the 2012 West Coast Conference Golf Championships at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. Despite being in fourth place after 18 holes, Pepperdine has surged into the top spot on the women's side, leading second place Gonzaga by two strokes.

Saint Mary's shot a one-under par 287 on day two to remain atop the leaderboard on the men's side. Fast-charging San Francisco had the best team score of the day, a 278 (-10), to pull to within six strokes of the Gaels. West Coast Conference newcomer BYU sits third, shooting an even-par 576 through the championship's first 36 holes.

Saint Mary's freshman Jonathan De Los Reyes continues to sit in first place through the first two days, with a six-under 138. BYU junior Zac Blair and San Diego freshman Grant Forrest are each just one shot off the lead, sitting at -5 through 36 holes.

On the women's side, defending champion Pepperdine holds the top spot after the completion of Tuesday's round. The Waves (609, +33) hold a two-stroke edge over second place Gonzaga entering Wednesday's final round. The Bulldogs shot a 611 over the first two days.

Individually, Pepperdine freshman Alina Ching shot an even par 72 on Tuesday to take over the top spot. Ching (148, +4 through 36 holes) has a two-stroke advantage over four players tied for second: Gonzaga's Stephanie Corey, Pepperdine's Somin Lee, Seattle's Caitlin McCleary, and BYU's Maggie Yuan.

The men's and women's teams return to the links on Wednesday morning to conclude the 2012 WCC Championships. Action tees off at 8 a.m. at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.
