SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Men’s Golf Player of the Month for April 2014.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE MONTH - GRANT FORREST, JR., SAN DIEGO
Grant Forrest was named the 2014 West Coast Conference Golfer of the Year and earned his third straight All-WCC First Team honor. He opened the month of April by winning medalist honors at the Redhawk Invitational (April 7-8) that was played at Chambers Bay (host site for 2105 U.S. Open) in University Place, Washington. On the strength of rounds of 63 and 65 on day one, he finished the three-round tournament at 11-under par 200, three strokes better than the runner-up golfer.
At the WCC Championships (April 14-16) played at Golf Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington, Forrest tied for eighth with his three-round total of 218 (+2). He fired a 4-under par 68 on day two of the three-day tournament. For the month Forrest, who ranks No. 55 nationally, averaged 69.67 for his six rounds.
Forrest was chosen for the prestigious Palmer Cup. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 26-28 at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England. Forrest becomes USD's first golfer to be selected to the Palmer Cup and he'll compete on the Europe team. Before competing internationally, Forrest will compete in the 2014 NCAA San Antonio Regional starting Thursday, May 15 at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
