WCC Men's Golfers Complete Second Round of NCAA Regional

Tempe, AZ - The Pepperdine men's golf team is currently in four-way tie for 12th place after 36 holes of the NCAA Division I Men's West Regional Golf Championships that are being held at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Arizona.

The Waves shot a second-round score of 3-under par 562 on Friday are within five shots of 10th place heading into Saturday's final round. Freshman Carl Smith is the top individual for Pepperdine as he is tied for 23rd at 6-under par 138. Junior Jesse Barnsley, who shot a 4-under par 139, is tied for 30th, while junior Eric Shriver is tied for 42nd at 4-under par 140.

LMU's Brian Locke shot a 67 on Friday to move into a tie for 12th place with a two round score of 136, while Saint Mary's Mike McRae moved up to 30th place with a 69 on Friday, giving him a score of 139 after two days. San Diego's Darrin Hall rounded out the WCC individuals in action with a 75 on Friday, and is currently tied for 84th with an overall score of 145.

UCLA is currently leading the 27-team field with a 35-under par total of 541 and has a one-shot lead over South Carolina (542). USC and host Arizona State are tied for third at 26-under par, while Washington and East Tennessee State are tied for fifth with scores of 21-under par 555.

Individually, USC's Jamie Lovemark shares the second-round lead with Arizona State's Benjamin Alvarado as both players are at 12-under par 132. Lovemark carded the low round of the day on Friday, shooting a 9-under par 63.

UCLA's Erik Flores and New Mexico's Charlie Beljan are tied for third at 11-under par 133 while Kevin Chappell and Oregon State's James Allenby are in a fifth-place tie at 10-under par 134.

The top 10 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships that will be contested May 30-June 2 at the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia. Virginia Commonwealth University is the host institution for this year's championships.
