Golf Trio Commits to LMU

Los Angeles, CA (July 5) - Loyola Marymount University men's golf earned three commitments for the 2007-08 season. John (Jong Yeop) Lim (South Torrance High School), Bryan Martin (Moorpark College) and Greg Moss (College of the Canyons) will enter their first season as a Lion in August, announced LMU Head Coach Alex Galvan on Thursday.

All three incoming players come from established Southern California High Schools, with Martin and Moss earning additional experience at a pair of California junior colleges.

"We are excited to have these three student-athletes join our program this fall," said Galvan, who led the Lions to their first West Coast Conference Championship in 2006. "All three newcomers will give us great depth and will be key pieces to making a run at postseason success like we had in 2006."

Lim comes to LMU from right down the 405 at South Torrance High School. Lim posted a 75 in the Northern Individual Regional of the CIF Southern Sectional Playoffs at Sterling Hills Golf Course. The 2007 first-team All-Conference selection by the Daily Breeze finished 40th out of 87 players at the Southern Sectional on May 23 at the PGA of Southern California Golf Course in Beaumont.

Another Southern California product was Martin. The Thousand Oaks High School graduate went to Moorpark College and helped the squad to a second place Western State Conference Championships. His 73 helped him finish in a tie for third at the annual championship. This past week Martin finished 23rd at the SCGA Amateur Golf Championship with a four-round 288, including a third-round 68.

Continuing the trend of local players coming to LMU, Moss is a Brentwood High School graduate from Sherman Oaks. He returns to Southern California after spending a season at IUPUI in Indiana (2004-05) and another season at College of the Canyons (2006-07). While at Canyons, he helped the squad to the 2007 Southern California Regional Championship, posting 154 to push the team to an eight-stroke win.

During the 2007 California Community College Men's Golf State Championships at the Merced Golf and Country Club (Par-72, 6,519 yards), he shot a 70 in the afternoon session to help team finish fourth.

Additional Highlights for John Lim:

  • Posted at 3-under 134 to finish in a tie for fourth at the FCWT Mission Hills Pete Dye Invitational as part of the FCWT Junior Golf Tour. Played Dec. 17 at the par-70, 6,605-yard Westin Mission Hills Resort (Pete Dye) in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
  • Posted a 75 to tie for third at the qualifier for the Fidelity Investments Junior Open qualifier. (AJGA).
  • Posted a 72 at the Qualifier for the Family Toyota/Family Honda Junior presented by The First American Corporation. Finished in fourth place. (AJGA)
  • Posted a three-round 222 (9-over par) at the AJGA ReBath Heather Farr Classic, played April 8 at the par-71, 6,999-yard Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. He posted rounds of 72, 77 and 73 to finish 50th among the top junior golfers in the nation.
  • Posted a two-over 74 to at the California State Open Golf Championship qualifier at the Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula, Calif., on Sept. 13, 2006. Par-72, 7,030.
  • Finished 6th with a three-round 214 at the Family Toyota/Family Honda Junior presented by the First American Corporation conducted by the AJGA at Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club (Par-72, 6,837 yards). It was a field of 66 top junior golfers from the west.
  • Posted a 75 in the Northern Individual Regional of the Southern Section Playoffs at Sterling Hills Golf Course in Camarillo on May 14 to advance to the Individual Final on May 23 at PGA of Southern California Golf Course in Beaumont.
  • Posted a 75 at the Southern Sectional Championship to finish in a tie for 40th out of 87 golfers.

    Additional Highlights for Bryan Martin:

  • Led Moorpark College to a second place finish in 2006 with a 73 at the WSC tournament on March 28, 2006. He finished in a tie for third.
  • Place ninth with a 77 in the CGA Amateur Qualifier at Empire Lakes Golf Course on May 7
  • Placed in a tie for 34th with a 78 at the US Open Local Qualifier at the Angeles National Golf Club on May 16
  • On May 22 place in a tie for 3rd with a 71 at the SCGA Amateur Qualifier at the SCGA Golf Course
  • Finished tied for 23rd out of 84 golfers at the 198th SCGA Amateur Golf Championship at Victoria Club June 29 - July 1. Finished with a four round 288, including a third round 68. His tournament included a pair of eagles (round three on par-5 18 and round two on par-5 14).

    Additional Highlights for Greg Moss:

  • Placed 23rd at the 2007 California Community College Men's Golf State Championships at the Merced Golf and Country Club (Par-72, 6,519 yards). Shot a 70 in the afternoon session. Helped team finish fourth at the California State Community College Championship at Merced Golf and Country Club on May 14
  • Helped College of the Canyons to the 2007 SoCal Community College Championship. He posted rounds of 80 and 74 to finish in a tie for 34th among the 78 players.
  • Played the 2004-05 season as a freshman at IUPUI.
  • Graduated from Brentwood HS and is from Sherman Oaks, CA
  • Won the 2002 Oak Park Spring Invitational with a three-under par 69. Helped Brentwood win the team title with a 221.
  • Was named to the IUPUI Academic Advisor's List with a 4.0 in the fall semester of 2004. School of Business.
  • First collegiate tournament came on Oct. 12, 2004 with a 247 at the Morehead State Eagle Classic
  • Helped College of the Canyons to its 10th straight Western State Conference championship. He posted an even par to lead the Cougars in their fifth conference match at the Glendora Country Club on March 19.
  • Finished 2007 ranked second in the Western State Conference in stroke average at 72.7.
