Hayes' PNGA Run Ends In Round Of 16

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Gonzaga University senior Jimmy Hayes saw his run in the 105th Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Men's Amateur Championship end in Thursday's round of 16.

After defeating Erik Hanson of Kirland, Wash., 3 and 2 in a morning match, Hayes fell to Peter Ahn of Vancouver, B.C., 6 and 5 in an afternoon match at the par-70, 6960-yard Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.

Hayes, from Redmond, Wash., tied for fourth in stroke play to advance to the match-play field of 64. He won his opening match on Wednesday.

Play continues Friday with the quarterfinal and semifinal matches, with the championship slated for Saturday.

Earlier this month Hayes finished second in the 80th Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) Men's State Amateur Championship.
