July 17, 2007

LINCOLN, Neb. - Gonzaga University sophomore Brandon Crick of McCook and Ben Tewes of Lincoln are co-leaders Monday after 18-holes of play at Firethorn Golf Club in the 99th Nebraska Amateur Championship.

Both golfers finished the day at 2-under par 69 over the 6,847-yard, par 71 layout. Tied for third and one shot back are Ben Hanssen of Grand Island and Daniel Hersch of Lincoln.

Crick, the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year this past spring, led last year's championship after the first round, eventually finishing second. Tewes is a junior-to-be at Southern Methodist University.

Second round action takes place Tuesday with a cut to be made to 54 golfers and ties following the second round.
