August 9, 2011

Norman, Okla.--- The Saint Mary's College golf team is one of 59 NCAA Division I teams to receive Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team recognition for a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the grade point averages earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

Seven of the team's 10 members last season registered a grade point average of higher than 3.14 and were honored by the West Coast Conference as recipients of the league's WCC Honor Roll.

The SMC golf team placed four members on the WCC All-Academic team as Anders Engell (3.55 GPA), Ben Geyer (3.27 GPA) and Henrik Holm (3.46 GPA) earned First-Team spots. Richard Conlin was selected to the honorable mention list.

"I'm proud of the level of academic success our players are able to continuously achieve considering the challenging travel schedule we face," said head coach Scott Hardy. "It is great to have a team of true student-athletes that represent Saint Mary's College in such a distinctive and honorable manner."
