(San Francisco) - USF men's golf team will head to Layton, Utah to compete in its second tournament of the fall season at the 2006 Purple and Red Invitational, co-hosted by Weber State and Utah. The tournament will be played at the Valley View Golf Course and will begin on Monday, September 18 with two rounds and end Tuesday, September 19 with the final round.
The Dons enjoyed a runner-up finish at the 2006 Hawks Invitational Saturday, September 9, posting a score of 860 (285, 286, 289). Sophomore Domingo Jojola posted a three-under 213 (69, 71, 73), good for a fifth place finish. Junior Kenny Adams also had a strong first performance for the Green and Gold, finishing in seventh place at 216 (72, 75, 69).
Valley View Golf Course is not unfamiliar territory for the Dons. At the 2005 Purple and Red Inviational, USF celebrated a then final round tournament best score of 281, finishing in fifth place at 871 (299, 291, 281). The team was led by sophomore Jesse Galvon, then a freshman, competing in only his second collegiate tournament. Galvon posted an impressive nine-under 207 (70, 70, 67), good for runner-up honors. Galvon will be looking to have a repeat of his strong performance in this year's event.
USF will face Weber State, Utah, Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal Northridge, Gonzaga, Hartford, Idaho, Idaho State, Northern Colorado, Portland, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley and Wyoming on the par-72 course. This event will mark the first meeting for the Dons with fellow West Coast Conference teams Gonzaga and Portland.
