THE STORYLINE: San Francisco's men's golf team competes in the 14th Annual Xavier Invitational October 1-2 in Loveland, Ohio. The two-day, 54-hole event will take place at the Oasis Golf Club.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: A full field of 17 teams from across the country will be on hand to compete for the team title. Participating schools with current Golfweek rankings include: Akron (56), Bowling Green (51), Campbell (212), Cincinnati (N/A), Davidson (N/A), Eastern Kentucky (31), George Washington (231), Marquette (N/A), Marshall (171), New Orleans (48), Ohio (204), St. Mary's (40), San Francisco (149), Western Carolina (61), Western Kentucky (109), Wright State (194) and Xavier (132). For the first time since the event began in 1993, Xavier won the title last year, winning by ten shots over Austin Peay.
LAST TIME OUT: The University of San Francisco men's golf team finished ninth at the 2007 Hartford Hawks Invitational, which wrapped up September 15 at The International Golf Course. Sophomores Connor McElyea and Chris Cunningham paced the Dons as each had a three round combined score of 231 to tie for 33rd-place overall.
McElyea's had round scores of 76, 76 and 79, while Cunningham went 75, 80 and 76. Coming up behind McElyea and Cunningham were senior Kenny Adams, who tied for 41st with a score of 232 (79 - 80 - 73), 43rd place finisher freshman EJ Kahn (78 - 73 - 82) and junior Kurt Nino, who tied for 44th with a score of 234 (77 - 83 - 74).
USF's team score was 917 (306 - 309 - 302).
* Sophomores Conor McElyea and Chris Cunningham finished as the top two Dons' golfers in both events USF has taken part in to this point of the season. McElyea has an average score of 76.5 per round with his best being a 72 shot at Saint Mary's Invitational on September 11. Averaging a score of 76, Cunningham has a best round of 74 also at Saint Mary's.
