San Bruno, CA - Saint Mary's junior golfer Josh Kelley made the most of his lone tournament during the month of September and was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month. Kelley shot a 54-hole score of 213 even-par to help the Gaels post a first place finish at the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, CA on September 14-15.
In the final group of the day in the third round, Kelley made a 15-foot birdie putt on the 54th hole to give Saint Mary's the team title. The Upland, Calif. native finished tied for third in the individual tournament, one shot off the lead of the two top individuals.
Kelley had rounds of 70, 71 and 72 at the par-71, 6,633-yard Virginia Country Club. Led by the play of Kelley, the Gaels finished five shots ahead of conference foe San Diego, 20 shots better than Santa Clara, and 23 shots better than LMU in the same tournament.
Kelley and the Gaels will return to action on October 9-10 when they compete in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, CA.
