Dons' Golf Travels To Long Beach

Oct. 24, 2007

THE STORYLINE: The USF men's golf team will travel to Long Beach to take part in the Del Walker Invitational this Thursday and Friday. Tee time both days is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. PT. Live stats can be found at golfstat.com.

A LITTLE ON THE TOURNAMENT: The tournament is named for Del Walker a 49er men's golf coach for 11 years (1983-1994). Walker was also a member of the UCLA golf team (1934-36). He lost only one match as a Bruin and won the Southern California Collegiate Championship ... the course is a par-71... along with USF 12 teams will be participating in this year's tournament. The teams are Arizona, Colorado State, Houston, Long Beach State, North Texas, Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Texas-San Antonio.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT: Saint Mary's (284-285-287) and Arkansas (282-287-287) were co-champions last year as both teams finished with a score of 856 ... Aaron Conrad of San Jose State won the individual title as he shot a nine-under 212.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The San Francisco men's golf team struggled through the third and final round of the Mackenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club. The Dons shot a 292 to cap off a 13th-place team finish.

The best USF performer that day was senior Kenny Adams. Adams collected his best score of the tournament with a score one under 70. For his efforts, Adams climbed from a 61st-place tie at tee time to a 45th-place knot with Chadd Cocco and Daniel Cone of Saint Mary's and Jonathan Keane of Santa Clara.

Freshman EJ Kahn was the top Dons' individual overall despite registering a one over 72 for the day. Kahn wrapped up his time on the Meadow Club course tied for 28th (70 - 69- 72). Junior Kurt Nino (+4), sophomore Connor McElyea (+4) and sophomore Chris Cunningham (+5) all found Tuesday very forgettable. Nino and McElyea tied for 58th individually, while Cunningham found his name posted at 76th.
