Golf World Names Locke Player of the Week

Nov. 9, 2006

WILTON, CT--Golf World has selected Brian Locke of Loyola Marymount its "Players of the Week" for his performances in tournaments between Oct. 30 and Nov. 5. The players are featured in the Nov. 10 issue of the magazine and online at Golf World Magazine.

Locke, a sophomore and a native of Los Angeles, notched his third career win at the Bill Cullum Intercollegiate in Simi Valley, Calif. (Oct. 30-31) with a nine-under 207. Locke's performance helped the Lions claim the team title by one shot--their first regular-season win outside their home event since 1999.

Locke had the best year in school history during his freshman year in 2005-06, when he posted a 72.1 scoring average. That year he helped lead the Lions to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Championship, was named West Coast Conference player of the year and was an honorable mention All-American.

"Players of the Week" are compiled each week by the Golf World editorial staff. Past winners include Chris Kirk, Georgia and Alison Walshe, Arizona (Sept. 22); Matt Fast, Mississippi State and Nicole Smith, Tennessee (Sept. 29); Billy Horschel, Florida and Ashley Knoll, Texas A&M (Oct. 13); Colt Knost, SMU and Angela Oh, Tennessee (Oct. 20); Zack Miller, Stanford and Kristen Svicarovich, Vanderbilt (Oct. 27); Jamie Lovemark, USC and Marisa Milligan, Auburn (Nov. 3).
