Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's golf team signed three top junior golfers to national letters of intent, head coach John Geiberger announced on Tuesday. Josh Anderson, Richard "Austyn" Karle and Andrew Putnam all signed letters to attend Pepperdine and will become Waves next fall.
"I am happy about the caliber of players we were able to sign this year," Geiberger said. "They enjoyed standout junior careers and I look forward to them coming to Pepperdine and performing at a high level that will enable us to continue competing at the national level."
Anderson (Murrietta, CA / Murrietta Valley HS) was named the 2006 Southern California PGA Junior Player of the Year based on scoring average. He also was a part of the Southern California team that captured the 38th Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches title at the Riverside Country Club in Portland, Ore., this past August.
Karle (Scottsdale, AZ / Notre Dame Prep) was the 2006 Arizona High School State Individual Champion and will come into Pepperdine with his sister, Taylor, who signed a letter of intent play for women's golf head coach Laurie Gibbs.
Putnam (University Place, WA / Life Christian Academy) earned second team AJGA All-American honors, was a semi-finalist for the U.S. Junior Amateur this past summer and captured the Washington Class 1A High School boys' golf title. He is the younger brother of former Pepperdine All-American Michael Putnam.
The current Pepperdine team is in action later this week when it begins play at the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational in Kauai, Hawaii.
