Los Angeles, CA - Loyola Marymount men's golf has announced that Jake Sarnoff of Mira Costa High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lions in the fall of 2008. Sarnoff becomes the fourth player from the South Bay high school to join the Lions program under sixth-year Head Coach Alex Galvan.
Sarnoff, a senior at Mira Costa, is a three-time First-Team All-Area selection and is the defending CIF individual champions. He posted an 11-under 133 to set the Bay League record and is ranked 38th (as of Nov. 30) by Junior Golf Scoreboard and 43rd by Golfweek.
"Mira Costa has been one of the top programs in southern California and we are very fortunate that we are in each others backyard," said Galvan. "We have had great talent from Mira Costa over the years and Jake is another player that will make an impact on our program."
The Lions already have Mira Costa alums Jason D'Amore, Brandin Cohen and Joe Stassi on the roster. D'Amore was the first recruit by Galvan from Mira Costa and he has gone on to be one of the best in LMU history. D'Amore, who was the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in 2005, is the only player in LMU history to earn First-Team All-WCC honors three straight years.
As for Sarnoff, he has the potential to have that type of success at LMU. "Jake enters his senior season as one of the top golfers in the state and is only getting better the more he plays. We are excited to have him become a Lion," said Galvan.
Sarnoff finished the Oak Park Tournament at North Ranch tied for first with a 71 and has had further success playing over the summer. In 2007 he tied for seventh at the Tomato Bank Southern California Classic with rounds of 71, 72 and 70 (total of 213). He also finished tied for second at the Hami Bank Junior Open at Robinson Ranch Country Club with rounds of 74, 67 and 74 - good for another 213. All told, he has a win, four top-five finishes, eight top-10 and eight top-20 on his resume.
