Men's Soccer Plays CS Stanislaus To A 1-1 Tie

Turlock, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team opened its 2007 exhibition slate with a 1-1 tie against CS Stanislaus Sunday afternoon. The Gaels scored early but gave up a late goal to succumb to the draw. No overtime was played in the exhibition match.

In the 13th minute, true freshman Erik Rivas got his SMC career off on the right foot by finding the back of the net off a sophomore Brian VanDoorninck's assist.

With less than four minutes remaining in the contest, the Warriors evened the score. Kishin Hamaguchi scored on a header from Eric Angell.

The Warriors out-shot the Gaels 6-4 with four different SMC players rallying off a shot. Keenan Flynn played the entire contest between the pipes. The sophomore goalkeeper made two saves and allowed one goal.

Hamaguchi led all players with two shots. Mando Herrera also made two saves and allowed a goal for the Warriors.

Saint Mary's will continue its exhibition schedule against UC Davis. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, August 25 at 11 am from Davis, CA.
