Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 To UC Davis In Exhibition Play

Davis, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team dropped its final tune-up for the regular season with a 3-0 loss to UC Davis Saturday afternoon. The Gaels out-shot the Aggies but were unable to find the back of the net. SMC conclude exhibition play with a 0-1-1 record.

Saint Mary's rallied off 15 shots to UC Davis' 13, but were unable to get on the board. Nicholas Lind started the scoring with a shot from 20-yards out from the left side to put the Aggies up 1-0 in the 12th minute.

Both squads would go into the intermission with that same score but a minute into the second half UCD struck again.

Miles Hadley tallied an unassisted goal from five yards out to put UC Davis up 2-0 in the 46th minute.

UCD closed its scoring with another tally in the 73rd minute when Quincy Amarikwa scored an unassisted goal.

The Saint Mary's freshmen duo of Nick Cashmere and Michael Lawler led all players with four shots a piece.

SMC goalkeeper Brian Mason allowed two goals and made three saves in 70 minutes. Sophomore Keenan Flynn allowed a goal in the final 20 minutes. Three different UCD net-minders combined for the shut out.

Saint Mary's senior David Vedder made his first appearance on the pitch since the 2004 season.

The Gaels will open their regular season slate across the country in North Carolina. Saint Mary's will face Davidson on Friday, August 31 in the first game of the Davidson Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
