ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Gonzaga University men's soccer team fell to host Navy 2-1 Sunday in the finale of the Anders Navy Classic held in Annapolis, Md.
With the loss, the Zags fall to 1-2-1 for the season.
George Josten scored the lone Gonzaga goal of the match at the 72:50 mark. Josten posted his second goal in as many days when the dribbled through the Navy (2-2-0) defense at in the midfield before finding the net.
Navy posted the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute. McKenzie Plank beat out Bulldog goalie Vito Higgins to take the early 1-0 lead.
The second Navy goal came in the beginning of the second half by Travis King. At 50:27, King took a cross from the perimeter and hit the net from 10 yards out to take the 2-0 lead.
Gonzaga was unable to capture the win, despite holding an advantage in shots and corner kicks. The Bulldogs held a 18-14 shot advantage, including having nearly twice as many shots as Navy in the second half, 13-7. The Zags also maintained a 6-1 corner kick lead over Navy.
The Bulldogs will be on the road again next weekend when they travel to play in the Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Classic in Corvallis, Ore. As part of the classic, GU will face Xavier at 1:30 p.m. on Friday before taking on host Oregon State at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
