SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team (3-6-0, 0-1-0 WCC) played tough along side the No. 3 ranked Santa Clara University Broncos Sunday afternoon in their 2-0 loss at torero stadium.
The Broncos first goal came in the 13th minute of the first half as forward Brian Martin went streaking down the sideline with the ball. Martin sent a ball to forward Jide Ongonby who was onsides in the Torero penalty box. Ongonby took it off one hop & tapped it into the net past San Diego goalkeeper Kelin Briones for the 1-0 lead.
In the 61st minute, Peter Lowry was in the goal box and took a rebounded shot and knocked it in from inside the goalie box for the 2-0 win over the Toreros.
Both teams vanished with six total shots in the match. USD tallied seven corner kicks to the Broncos one. Santa Clara finished with 22 total fouls to USD's 19 fouls.
Midfielder Dustin Guerrero tallied three shots and one on goal. Ogunbiyi and Lowry both had two shots on goal for the Broncos.
San Diego returns to the pitch for their first WCC road trip in the Northwest to take on University of Portland on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. followed by their match with Gonzaga at 2:00 p.m.
