Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Gonzaga Sunday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium. The Bulldogs scored once in the first half and then tacked on two more in the second to secure the 3-0 win. After the day, the Gaels fall to 4-10-5 overall and 2-7-2 in West Coast Conference play.
Nearing the end of the first period at the 38-minute mark, WCC leading goal scorer George Josten connected for the first goal of the match. Josten gained control of a loose ball and found net from 20-yards out near post.
The game remained 1-0 until the 80th minute when Steve Owens tallied his first goal on the season. John Reha slipped into the box and handed Owens a short pass that he buried near post from eight yards out.
Seven minutes later, Josten tallied his second goal of the match. Josten was on the receiving end of an errand clearance that trickled its way into the net from nearly 20-yards out.
Josten led GU with three shots and put two on frame. Vito Higgins earned the shutout for the Bulldogs after recording a game-high six saves. Newcomer Keenen Flynn allowed three goals and tallied three saves.
Saint Mary's will conclude its season against Portland on Sunday, November 5. The game will mark senior day as seven seniors will suit up for the final time. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. from Saint Mary's Stadium.
