SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team (9-8-1, 6-3-1 WCC) sent their senior class out on a high note in their final home match of the season as they defeated Gonzaga University (9-4-4, 4-2-4 WCC) 1-0 Sunday afternoon from Torero Stadium.

The first half consisted of numerous great shot attempts from both teams. Junior mid fielder Eddie Ahman had one look in the 31st minute from inside the penalty box on the near side, a header which was saved by Bulldog keeper Vito Higgins. The first half ended tied 0-0.

After the intermission, USD caught a break as 14 seconds into the second half Gonzaga defender Daniel Scott had a dangerous play and was issued a red card. Down a man, USD looked to capitalize on the opportunity, and JT Howlan did just that 10 minutes later. Howlan and senior forward Tannen Wels sprinted up field for a ball which Howlan gained possession of. He sent a cross from the far side to Wels who was 23 yards away in front of the net. Wels fired off a shot through the hands of Higgins and into the right lower corner of the net for the 1-0 win.

Higgins posted a loss falling to 9-4-4 overall and recorded three saves. Briones records his sixth shutout of the season recording three saves. USD out-shot the Bulldogs 10-4 and posted six corner kicks to Gonzaga's one.

The Toreros wrap up the 2007 season with a road trip to the bay area to take on Saint Mary's and San Francisco next weekend. The Toreros start with Saint Mary's in Moragao, California on Friday afternoon at 2:00.
