Strong Spring Debut

Feb. 13, 2007

Carson, CA -- LMU men's soccer opened its 2007 spring schedule by narrowly falling 1-0 to Major League Soccer's Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center on Saturday.

The Lions got outstanding defensive efforts from Miguel Benitez, Wilkie Johnson, and Adam Sloustcher who helped shut down the Chivas attack and left the scoreline 0-0 at the half.

The break saw a brand new team for Chivas as all eleven players were changed. With 23 minutes remaining, Chivas USA made sure of its 3rd straight win over the Lions when Patrick Sampson was unable to hold onto a close range effort from Matt Taylor and Anthony Hamilton scored at the far post.

After the goal, the Lions were able to apply pressure as Diego Barrera and Nick Blanco were able to combine to create chances in the Chivas defensive end.

The Lions best chance to draw level came from Blayze Hanson who forced a great save from Chivas USA's Brad Guzan in the 83rd minute.

The Lions continue the spring season on Thursday, February 15th as they take on the Los Angeles Galaxy and former Lion Bobby Burling at 10:45 am at the Home Depot Center.
