USD MEN'S SOCCER NETS SEVEN RECRUITS FOR 2006 CAMPAIGN

USD men's soccer coach Seamus McFadden and his staff completed a very successful recruiting campaign with seven student-athletes signing national letters of intent to attend USD for the 2006-07 school year. The recruits include Mike Barbeito (Fontana, CA), Tim Grey (Port Orchard, WA), Fabrice Guatrat (Valencia, CA), Jeremy Howlan (Thornton, CO), Ciaran O'Brien (Tacoma, WA), Ryan Peterman (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), and Chase Tangney (Tacoma, WA). These players will report to camp in August with approximately 20 returners, including six starters, from last year's 9-6-5 club.

Mike Barbeito, a 5'11" 160 lbs. midfielder from Fontana, California, attended Etiwanda HS and played for Alta Loma Arsenal. He is a Regional and State Team participant (2002-05), All-League performer and Regional Pool selection (2004-06). States coach McFadden, "Excellent midfielder with exceptional one-on-one skills."

Tim Grey, a 6'3" 185 lbs. defender from Port Orchard, Washington, attended King West HS and played for FC United Washington. He was named the 2005 Surf Cup Defensive MVP, and was a three-time All-State and All-Regional performer (2004-06). Comments McFadden, "Regional defender with great size and desire who likes to play out of the back."

Fabrice Guatrat, a 6'3" 180 lbs. defender from Valencia, California, attended Hart HS and played for Alta Loma Arsenal. He was a three-time All-League performer (2004-06) and three-time team captain (2004-06). Adds McFadden, "Very strong defender with the ability to organize, and combines well out of the back."

Jeremy Howlan, a 5'10" 160 lbs. forward from Thornton, Colorado, attended Horizan HS and played for Colorado Rush. A four-time varsity starter, Jeremy was a three-time All-State performer (2003-05), and was selected to the Regional Team (2004-06) and ODP State Team (2004-06). Said McFadden, "Great with his back to the goal and can play as a target or wide in the midfield. He has a great delivery in front of the goal."

Ciaran O'Brien, a 5'10" 155 lbs. midfielder from Tacoma, Washington, attended Decatur HS and played for FC United Washington. O'Brien is a National Team Player Pool U-18; a two-time Regional member (2004-05), a three-time All-State performer; and the 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year. "Comments McFadden, "Rated as one of the top midfielders in the country. Will make everyone around him better."

Ryan Peterman, a 5'10" 160 lbs. defender/forward from Rancho Cucamonga, California, attended Rancho Cucamonga HS and played for Alta Loma Arsenal. Honors include: two-time National Champion (2004-05); 2005 All-American; Golden Boot winner at 2004 National Cup; MVP of 2002 Nomads Tournament; member of Regional and State Team (2002-05); and U-17 National Team (2005). "States McFadden, "Versatile as a wide defender, wide midfielder or forward. Exceptional pace and ball delivery."

Chase Tangney, a 5'8" 150 lbs. midfielder/forward from Tacoma, Washington, attended Bellarmine Preparatory and played for FC United Washington. Was a three-time All-State member (2004-06); a three-time All-Conference performer (2004-06); and his team's top scorer for both club and high school. Adds McFadden, "Possesses great speed and can beat players consistently off the dribble."
