2006 Santa Clara Men's Soccer Schedule

Santa Clara, Calif - The Santa Clara University men's soccer team announced its schedule today for the upcoming 2006 season. Once again, the Broncos will face some of strongest competition in the country along with its usual West Coast Conference opponents as the team looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Cameron Rast, the Broncos open the season on the road against the Stanford Cardinal on Friday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Santa Clara heads into that game with a three-game unbeaten streak against the Cardinal. The following Sunday, August 27, SCU begins its home slate with a match against another Bay Area rival, the California Golden Bears, at 7:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium as part of a soccer tripleheader. The Bronco women take on the University of Utah at 1:30 p.m., preceded by a game between the women's teams from Stanford and Wake Forest University at 11:00 a.m. PT.

"Our 2006 schedule is going to be a great challenge for us," said Rast. "We start off with two great games against our local rivals, Stanford and Cal, and overall we have a very strong non-conference schedule, including a key game against Saint Louis. Along with that excellent non-conference schedule, the WCC will again be great competition this year, and with the double round robin format, it is always wide open. I am looking forward to the season and competing against some of the top teams in the country."

After a weekend at the UC Irvine College Classic over Labor Day, the Broncos return home for a key match against perennial NCAA power, Saint Louis University on Friday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium as part of the adidas Santa Clara Classic. Other highlights include a weekend home-and-home series against Saint Mary's College on Friday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw and Sunday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. PT in Moraga and a home match against defending WCC Champion San Francisco on Friday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium.
