SAN BRUNO, Calif. - After capturing its first outright West Coast Conference championship in 2013, Loyola Marymount was picked as the favorite to win the 2014 title. The top two teams were separated by five votes in the annual preseason poll of the WCC's eight coaches.
Loyola Marymount was a nearly unanimous selection earning 48 out of a possible 49 points to go along with six first place votes. Santa Clara received the remaining two first place votes, collecting 43 points. Portland and San Diego each captured 27 votes for a share of third place, while Saint Mary's rounded out the top-five with 26 points. Gonzaga (23), San Francisco (22) and Pacific (8) - fielding its first team since 1985 - round out the survey.
Six programs placed at least one student-athlete on the preseason All-West Coast Conference Team. The Lions led the way with five preseason picks while San Diego added a pair of representatives.
