SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University junior George Josten has been named the West Coast Conference men's soccer Player of the Week.
Josten scored two goals and had an assist in each match last weekend as Gonzaga downed Xavier University 3-0 and host Oregon State University 4-1 to capture the Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Memorial Classic. The only goal he didn't play a part in for the weekend came on a John Palladino free kick.
The native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, who scored 12 goals last season, now has six goals in six matches this year. He has 23 career goals and, with three assists this season, now has 9 assists. He had already moved into fourth on the career goals list at Gonzaga earlier this season, and is now tied for 10th in career assists. He has 15 points this season to give him 55 in his career to vault from seventh entering the season to fourth on the all-time points list. His six goals and 15 points also lead the WCC this season.
Gonzaga (3-2-1) will be idle this weekend and then open West Coast Conference play Sept. 22 at Loyola Marymount University followed by a Sept. 24 match at the University of San Diego.
