WCC Men's Soccer Resumes Friday night

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- WCC non-conference men's soccer action resumes on Friday when Saint Mary's heads east to face UNC-Wilmington and San Diego hosts No. 6 UC Santa Barbara.


  • San Diego is on a two-match winning streaking after defeating Ohio State and Houston Baptist last week. WCC Player of the Week Elijah Galbraith-Knapp knocked in two goals last week, including the first in the 2-0 win over the Buckeyes.

  • Saint Mary's played to a 1-1 tie with Cal State Bakersfield last Friday. The Gaels defeated the Roadrunners 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year.

  • San Francisco tied UC Davis 2-2 and beat Sacramento State 2-1 last week. Sophomore David Romney scored both of the Dons' goals in the tie with the Aggies.

  • Portland continues to lead the conference in three major offensive categories: points per game (4.40), goals per game (1.60) and total assists (six). Junior Steven Evans leads the WCC with .80 goals per game.

  • Santa Clara senior Erik Hurtado scored two goals in a loss to San Jose State last Sunday. Hurtado leads the conference with eight points and four goals this season.

  • Gonzaga returns to the pitch after a two-week hiatus when they face Oregon State on Saturday in Corvallis.

  • Four West Coast Conference men's soccer matches will be televised nationally in 2012. The next broadcast will be on Friday, September 21 when Loyola Marymount visits Stanford. That match can be seen live on the Pac-12 Network.

  • Visit WCCsports.com each Tuesday for a new edition of the WCC Top Play Tuesday, featuring men's soccer highlights from the previous week.

  • Conference-play kicks off on Wednesday, September 26 when Gonzaga visits Portland at 7:00 p.m. PT. Theremaining WCC teams will debut on Friday night.
