SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - Sophomore forward Conor Chinn scored two goals to lift San Francisco (3-1-0) to a 2-1 victory over No. 11 California (2-2-0) Friday night. The contest was the first multi-goal match in Chinn's career.
California looked determined to take the upper hand as senior forward Javier Ayala-Hil scored a header at 5:53 off passes from sophomore midfielder Imaan Kerchgani and freshman midfielder Servando Carrasco.
The Golden Bears' lead was short lived as Chinn scored at 10:05 with a shot to the lower left of the goal from around 15-feet. Sophomore midfielder Jesse Henderson was credited with the assist. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime.
Chinn's final goal came at 49:18 on a feed from senior forward Ardalan Attar. USF senior goalkeeper Jeremy Coupe withstood ten shots and made all five of his saves in the second half to help hold the lead. Cal sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Frei also made five saves on the night and both Cal and USF attempted 16 shots.
Attar, Chinn and Ayala-Hil were tied with a match-high four shots. Senior midfielder Andrew Jacobson had three, all on goal.
San Francisco plays Sunday at Stanford. Kick off from Palo Alto, Calif., is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats will be available at gostanford.cstv.com.
DONS' NOTES - Friday's match was the first of two contests for each school as part of the 2007 WCC/PAC-10 Classic... Cal will play Santa Clara on Sunday at Berkeley... Chinn's goals were his second and third of the season... it was the first goal of the season for Ayala-Hil... the Dons are now 136-67-18 at home all-time, 27-10-5 at Negoesco Field since the 2003 season.
