SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team returns home this weekend to host the Adidas San Diego Classic which features No. 20 ranked UC Irvine (5-0-0), No. 21 ranked Brown University (4-0-0), and Loyola Chicago University (3-2-2, 0-0-1 Horizon League).
San Diego will face the Brown Bears of Brown University on Friday night. The Bears are 4-0-0 overall this season. They just finished a two-win weekend with victories over the University of Rhode Island 1-0, and Saint Francis University 1-0. The leading scorer for the Bears is junior forward Dylan Sheehan with five goals and one assist on the season.
The Toreros will then play Loyola Chicago University on Sunday afternoon. The Ramblers, 3-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Horizon League come to San Diego after back-to-back ties against Eastern Illinois 2-2, and Valparaiso 1-1. Sophomore forward Michael Ferguson is the leading goal scorer for the Ramblers with five this season.
USD will not face No. 20 ranked UC Irvine due to the tournament format. The Anteaters recently defeated Sacramento State 3-1, and San Jose State 3-2 in overtime. They will face both Loyola Chicago and Brown University this weekend. UCI's power player to watch will be junior midfielder Matt Murphy tallying three goals and two assists so far this season.
The Toreros will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
