WCC men's soccer conference play kicks off Wednesday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- WCC conference action kicks off this Wednesday when Gonzaga visits Portland.


  • Conference-play kicks off on Wednesday, September 26 when Gonzaga visits Portland at 7:00 p.m. PT. The remaining WCC teams will debut on Friday night.

  • Gonzaga picked up two wins last week in Corvallis. The Bulldogs topped UC Irvine 2-1 on Friday and an AndrewOwenson goal with one second remaining in double-overtime on Sunday gave GU a 3-2 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay.

  • Loyola Marymount topped Stanford 2-1 in overtime last Friday at Cagan Stadium on the Pac-12 Networks. RS-sophomore Craig Nitti knocked in the game-winner in the sixth minute of OT.

  • Saint Mary's picked up its third-straight shutout on the road when they defeated UC Davis 2-0 on Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Andre Rawls has four shutouts this season and is first in the WCC in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.

  • Santa Clara beat NJIT 2-0 Friday at Buck Shaw Stadium on the legs of two goals by senior Erik Hurtado. Hurtado is second in the WCC with 1.71 points per game.

  • Four West Coast Conference men's soccer matches will be televised nationally in 2012. Portland will travel to Santa Clara on Friday, October 26 in a match that can be seen live on FOX Soccer.
