SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's soccer captain Peter Lowry continued to pile up the awards today, as he was named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Month for September. Lowry led Santa Clara to a 4-1-2 record in the month with five goals, including two game-winners and two last-minute equalizing goals.
Lowry, who was named to the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy watch list in the preseason, has also been named WCC Player of the Week, College Soccer News Player of the Week and Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week this season.
The Fair Oaks, Calif. resident got his month started against Vermont on Sept. 2 with the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win at Buck Shaw Stadium. Lowry then caught fire beginning Sept. 14 against Stanford. Against the Cardinal, he netted the tying goal with 40 seconds remaining to earn the Broncos a 1-1 tie. The following week, Lowry netted three goals in two wins over San Jose State and UCLA. His two goals against the Spartans came in the first half and led SCU to a 2-0.
Two days later, Lowry scored a huge goal for the Broncos against No. 5 UCLA. Trailing 1-0 in the final minutes, he struck for a goal to tie the game and send it to overtime. Jeff Cosgriff then won the game for SCU in the overtime to help the Broncos move up to No. 3 in the rankings.
Santa Clara travels to Southern California this weekend to take on Loyola Marymount on Friday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. PT and San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. PT.
