Three WCC teams 3-1-0 in WCC play

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- After two weeks of conference play, Portland, San Diego and Santa Clara are 3-1-0 in WCC action. Men's soccer action kicks off this Wednesday when Loyola Marymount hosts San Diego at 2 p.m. PT.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • San Diego is riding a three-match winning streak into the third week of conference play. Last week, the Toreros beat Portland 4-3 and Gonzaga 2-0. WCC Player of the Week Sergio Lopez scored a goal in each of those matches for USD.

  • Santa Clara, the second of three teams with a 3-1-0 record in WCC play, split its two matches last week. The Broncos lost 1-0 at Saint Mary's on Wednesday before rebounding with a 2- 1 win over San Francisco on Sunday night.

  • Portland is also 3-1-0 in WCC play. The Pilots bounced back for a 2-1 win at Loyola Marymount on Sunday after losing 4-3 at USD on Friday. Junior Steven Evans is ranked ninth in the NCAA with 1.82 points per game, tied with Santa Clara's Erik Hurtado.

  • San Francisco split its two matches last week, winning 2-1 at Saint Mary's before falling 2-1 at Santa Clara. Brady Jimison's first career goal was the game-winner for the Dons in overtime against the Gaels on Friday night.

  • Portland leads the WCC in several offensive statistical categories, including points per game (5.55), goals per game (1.91), and assists per game (1.73).

  • The next nationally-televised men's soccer match will be on Friday, October 26 when Portland visits Santa Clara. That contest can be seen live on FOX Soccer.
