Oct. 14, 2013
SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has named its Men's Soccer Player of the Week for October 14, 2013.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CLARK PHILLIPS, GONZAGA, JUNIOR, FORWARD
Junior forward Clark Phillips scored two goals on headers Sunday as Gonzaga drew 3-3 at home with San Diego. His first goal tied the match at 2-2, while his second goal gave Gonzaga a 3-2 lead that was erased on the second of two USD penalty kick goals.
Phillips' multiple-goal match was the first by a Bulldog since 2011 when he also scored twice in the 3-2 double-overtime win over San Diego. His 14 career goals move him into a tie for 10th on all-time Gonzaga goals list and he now holds a team-leading five goals this season after having five goals all of last season. In addition, Phillips' 33 career points leave him just four shy of cracking the all-time Gonzaga list.
Although not recording any stats on Friday against LMU, Phillips drew the attention of the Lion defense in a 2-1 Gonzaga win that snapped an 18-match Gonzaga WCC winless streak (0-17-1) since defeating San Diego 3-2 in double-overtime in 2011.
Also nominated: Connor Brandt, San Diego; Brady Jimison, San Francisco; Harrison Hanley, Santa Clara
